Specialities and Anniversaries
The different strands of my work often come together to bring about unexpected good things. It was when I was making a programme in Vienna for the BBC World Service that I met the man who had just discovered Schubert's first song-cycle. As a result, I gave its premiere in Chicago, and recorded the UK premiere in Oxford. (If you'd like a copy of that CD featuring Ian Partridge CBE, just send me an email.) And it was a lucky visit to Ireland with Philip Langridge that introduced me to Clara Schumann's very own piano. (See reviews.)
Many of the ideas presented here came about in such ways. I hope you'll enjoy them.
